Anthony De Rosa: The Artisan Carrying Dough and Tradition Forward

At Society Pizza Lounge, every pizza is a living sculpture, a tribute to heritage, discipline, and love passed from father to son.

Some chefs are made in culinary schools. Others are born into kitchens. Chef Anthony De Rosa belongs to the latter. The first of his family name born in the United States, Anthony grew up on Long Island under the watchful eye of his father, a master Neapolitan pastry chef from Naples. From the late 1970s onward, his father shaped Italian-American and French pastry culture across Brooklyn and Long Island, creating not only desserts, but memories. To Anthony, he was more than a mentor. He was a hero, instilling in his son a devotion to craft, discipline, and heritage.

By his teenage years, Anthony had already mastered the fundamentals of fermentation, bread, and pastry in the family bakeries. That early foundation carried him into the world of pizza, where for more than 20 years he refined his skills in wood-fired, coal-fired, and gas-fired ovens. Along the way, he cooked and managed at Dough Boys of New York City and Casalinga Wood-Fired Pizza of Brooklyn, earning a reputation as both a leader and a craftsman.

Ask him about his philosophy, and Anthony will tell you that dough is alive. A fermentation fanatic, he treats every batch like a living sculpture, patient, soulful, and precise. To him, shortcuts have no place in an honest kitchen.

That philosophy comes to life at Society Pizza Lounge, where Anthony now serves as Head Chef. Here, the spirit of a New York neighborhood shop meets the artistry of Italian tradition. Every detail matters, from flour that is unbleached and unbromated to whole plum tomatoes without additives, from cheeses crafted the old way to water filtered through a multi-stage system that ensures purity and flavor.

But Society Pizza Lounge is more than its ingredients. It’s a place where friends gather, music fills the air, and pizza becomes the centerpiece of memory. Anthony’s menu reflects not only technical mastery, but also the soul of a family legacy carried forward.

“Every pizza tells a story,” Anthony says. “It’s heritage, hard work, and love passed down from father to son.”

For Anthony De Rosa, Society isn’t just another restaurant. It’s a continuation of a legacy, proof that food crafted with care and integrity can be unforgettable. And for every guest who walks through the doors of Society Pizza Lounge, that legacy is served fresh, one slice at a time.
